Warnings, advisories as snow heads for southern Alberta

Oct 1, 2018 | 5:24 AM

LETHBRIDGE – October is barely underway, and a major snowfall could be headed for parts of Alberta.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for areas west of Lethbridge, including Fort Macleod, Cardston, Blood Reserve, Pincher Creek, Piikani Nation, Waterton, Crowsnest Pass, Claresholm, and Nanton. It says a low-pressure system will move in from British Columbia beginning the night of Monday, Oct. 1 and bring snow to western Alberta.

The heaviest snowfall is expected to be in a line between Pincher Creek and Nordegg, with up to 15 cm of snow in those areas. There’s a chance that areas to the east of that line could get more than 10 cm, while mountain parks might receive more than 20 cm. Snowfall warnings have been issued for areas such as Banff, Kananaskis, and Canmore.

Lethbridge’s forecast suggests 2-4 cm of wet snow Tuesday, with snow continuing to fall Wednesday.
