Busy day at City Hall with three meetings scheduled

LETHBRIDGE – Not one, but three meetings will take place at Lethbridge City Hall today, beginning at 11 a.m.

Community Issues Committee – 11 a.m.

The Executive Leaders Coalition will meet to discuss the effects of the drug crisis going on in Lethbridge. There will be representatives from Alberta Health Services, ARCHES, EMS, Lethbridge Police, and both the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division and Lethbridge School District 51.

The four pillars of harm reduction will be addressed including Treatment, Harm Reduction, Enforcement, Education & Prevention.

There will be updates on the work of the city’s ad hoc committee established several weeks ago, to develop a community-driven drug strategy, to outline existing efforts and to try and identify any gaps in services or resources locally.

City Council Meeting – 1:30 p.m.

First readings of several proposed bylaws including those recommending rate increases in January for Waste and Recycling, Electric and Water and Wastewater are on the agenda.

There will also be presentations from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 4 on this year’s Remembrance Day Ceremonies, a budget presentation by the Chinook Regional Library and a presentation by the Canadian Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism and Discrimination.

Public Hearing – 4 p.m.

A public hearing will take place for second and third readings of two bylaws: 6132 and 6138, which are amendments to Bylaw 5700: The Land Use Bylaw.
