EDMONTON — The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission announced on Thursday, Oct 4, that come 10/17, 17 cannabis stores will open across the province.

That number includes six in Edmonton, two in Calgary and three in Medicine Hat, plus other locations in Stony Plain, Fort Saskatchewan, Spruce Grove and St. Albert. None are listed for Red Deer or Lethbridge.

“We are immensely proud of the hard work that has been put in by AGLC employees to get us to this point. We will continue to license retailers at a steady pace in the days and months following,” says Dave Berry, Vice President, Regulatory Services. “In addition, Albertans of legal age will also have access to our online store at albertacannabis.org.”

The AGLC anticipates that as the weeks and months go by, somewhere around 250 stores will be in business.

A spokesperson with the City of Red Deer’s Inspections and Licensing department says just because none will be opening in Red Deer, it doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with those applicants’ submissions to the AGLC.

It simply means the AGLC is dealing with lots of them.
