Fire investigators determine Cavendish Farms fire was accidental

LETHBRIDGE – The cause of a fire at Cavendish Farms Friday evening, Oct. 12, has been deemed accidental by Lethbridge Fire investigators.

Around 6:15 p.m., fire crews responded to a fire alarm at Cavendish Farms Potato Processing in the 2700 block of 2A Ave. North. They arrived to find staff had already exited the building and were able to extinguish the blaze in about three hours. It was noted that no injuries were reported.

After attending the scene Monday morning, Oct. 15, fire investigators found the fire started in a French fry coating oven.

In a media release from the City of Lethbridge, Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services credited the safety training provided to employees for ensuring no one was injured and thanked Cavendish Farms for their cooperation and assistance during the investigation.
