LETHBRIDGE – A Lethbridge man charged in connection with an incident in July, where an 87-year-old Taber man was assaulted in his home, intends to take the matter to trial.

Heinrich Froese appeared in person in Lethbridge Provincial Court Thursday, Oct. 18, with his lawyer entering not guilty pleas on his behalf. They also elected trial by judge alone and adjourned the case to Nov. 6 in Taber, at which time they hope to schedule a trial date.

Froese is co-accused with Stacey Carlson – the victim’s granddaughter – who is also due back in Taber court Nov. 6.

According to Taber Police, they were called to a home along the 5800 block of 52 Street in Taber around 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11. They say an 87-year-old man found at the scene had been beaten and robbed of money, and that he was transported to the Taber hospital and later the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

To this point, there has not been an update on the victim’s condition, although police did note through social media post in July that he was expected to be released from hospital soon.

Both Froese and Carlson are currently out on bail. They face charges of robbery, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon.
