Lethbridge man charged in violent robbery

LETHBRIDGE — A 34 year old city man has been charged in connection with a violent robbery in which a female employee was threatened and assaulted.

Around 7:10-pm on Thursday (Oct 18) a man wearing a bag over his head and armed with a knife entered a liquor store along the 1200 block of 8 Avenue North and demanded cash from the lone female employee.

The suspect pinned the 51-year-old woman up against a wall, held a knife to her throat and threatened her before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The incident was recorded on video surveillance and police were able to find the man matching the suspect’s description a short distance away. He was arrested in possession of the weapon and a quantity of cash.

Kyle John Thurlow,  is charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, wearing a disguise during an indictable offence and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. He is in is custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.

The victim did not require medical treatment
