MEDICINE HAT —  In the first game of a weekend home-and-home, the Hurricanes travelled east on Highway-3 to challenge the Tigers in Medicine Hat.

The first period clearly belonged to the Canes who ‘out-attacked’ the Tigers in the face offs, winning 14 of 21.

Noah Boyko laid down his second goal of the season and the first of the night at 8:49, assisted by Justin Hall and Tyler Prefontaine.

Penalties were at a minimum, with the Tigers logging two minor incidents for tripping and high sticking.

A minute and a half before the end of the frame, on a man advantage, Jadon Joseph put the Canes ahead 2-0.  The period ended with Lethbridge also ahead shots-on-goal 9-1.

The second period again saw limited penalties, with no goals.  The Canes continued to lead in shots-on-goal, 15-10, and tallied more than double the face-off wins.

Just over two minutes into the third period, the Tigers Linus Nassen put a dent in the Canes lead and had his team on the board. However, at the midway point in the period, Dylan Cozens moved out front and planted his sixth goal of the season and putting the Canes’ lead at 3-1.

Two minutes before the end of the game, the Tigers increased their fight as Tyler Preziuso appeared to lob the puck into the Canes’ net.  It was waived off by officials but, a review determined the goal was good. Just 60 seconds later, the Tigers pulled their goalie and Ryan Jevne tied the score 3-3 with less than a minute left in regulation.

The game went to over-time and after killing an early interference call James Hamblin launched the game winner at the four-minutes mark on a penalty shot, giving the Tigers a 4-3 over-time win.

The Canes led the Tigers in shots-on-goal 29-24, were 0-5 on the power play and came away with a single point.

Lethbridge is now 4-4-1-2 on the season and get a rematch Saturday night, when they host Medicine Hat at the Enmax at 7:00-pm.
