LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Lightning kicked off the 2018-19 Ranchland Hockey League season with back to back victories over the weekend.

On the road Friday night, Lethbridge faced off against an old team with a new name and new uniforms, thrashing the new look Piikani Cowboys 16-2.

Captain Shay Wirll and Justice Taylor both netted hat-tricks in the win.

A number of newcomers this season also factored into the scoring, with Jay Hitchcock and Dallas Weber getting their first goals while Laramie Kostelansky and Nick Mottl each had a pair of goals.

Veterans James Price, Shane Erye, and two goals from Cole Matson rounded out the scoring.

The Lightning’s home opener was on Sunday afternoon, and the fans got their monies worth, as the home team prevailed 5-4 in a shootout.

James Price had a pair during regulation, as well as a goal in the shootout, while Cole Matson and Devery Edmonds also scored for the Lightning in regulation.

Lethbridge only has one game this weekend, they’ll head to the Deerfoot Sportsplex to play the Siksika Buffaloes on Friday, Nov. 2.

Their next home game isn’t until Saturday, Nov. 10, when the Lightning host the Kainai Braves at 8:30 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
