Skaters from Southern Alberta reach podium at Provincial Championships

RED DEER – With the skating season now well underway, athletes from the Southern Alberta Skating Academy had a successful week in Red Deer at the Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut Sectional Championships.

Pairs team Emma Gross and Austen Franz lead the way, earning a silver medal in the Pre-Novice Pairs event.

In the process, they achieved the required points to qualify for the Skate Canada Challenge and will be representing Alberta at the event later this month.

The team, which formed this past spring, has shown tremendous promise this season and looks to improve upon their personal best 45.52 points they achieved this weekend at the upcoming national championships.

Pre-Novice Women:

Madison Martin – 40th

Pre-Novice Men:

Connor Chan – 6th

Austen Franz – 7th

Pre-Novice Pairs:

Emma Gross & Austen Franz – 2nd (Qualified for Skate Canada Challenge)

Juvenile Ladies (Under 14):

Elizabeth Davis – 33rd
