LETHBRIDGE –  Police and Fire inspectors continue to investigate a sudden death following a fire at a downtown apartment building early Saturday (Nov 10) morning.

Around 4:23 a.m. that morning 22 firefighters from three fire stations, as well as police, responded to a fire alarm at the Landmark building along the 500 block of 6 Street South.

Fire crews extinguished the flames, which was isolated to one unit.

The body of a man, tentatively identified as the 39-year-old occupant of the unit, was located inside and will be transported to the Medical Examiner’s office in Calgary for an autopsy on Tuesday, November 13.

There is no evidence to suggest foul play, however the file remains under investigation pending the results of the autopsy.

Several occupants were initially displaced from the building due to extensive smoke.  Victim/Witness Services offered initial assistance but, occupants have now returned to their suites with no other injuries reported.
