COALDALE — RCMP are requesting information from witnesses as they continue to investigate a two-vehicle collision east of Lethbridge on Monday morning.

Just before 8 a.m. on November 12, RCMP along with Coaldale Fire Department/EMS attended a vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 4 and Highway 845.

A Yukon couple in their 70’s, were travelling south-east on Highway 4 towards to the U-S border, in a white Ford F-150 truck, when it’s alleged to have struck a northbound truck.

RCMP indicate a black Chevrolet truck, with two men and a woman in their 20’s, was northbound on Highway 845 when it “failed to proceed safely at the intersection of Highway 4 and crossed in front of the white truck.”

The white truck slammed into the driver’s side box area of the black truck, which came to rest in the centre meridian, while the white truck was on the north side of south-bound lanes of Highway 4.

The couple from the Yukon was transported to the Chinook Regional Hospital with what were initially determined to be minor injuries. However, the man was later transported to a Calgary hospital as his injuries were determined to be more serious.

During the confusion of the collision the two men in the black truck exited the vehicle and the driver was not identified. The female passenger of this truck was in the rear seat and suffered significant injuries.  All three occupants were also transported to Chinook Hospital. However, the woman’s serious head and internal injuries resulted in transport to Calgary via STARS Air Ambulance.

The black truck was determined to have been stolen previously from Lethbridge.  A traffic reconstructionist was on scene and traffic was reduced to one lane until after the noon hour.

As the investigation is still in the early stages, Coaldale RCMP want to hear from anyone who was at the collision scene and are able to identify the driver of the black Chevrolet truck.
