LETHBRIDGE – October was a strong month for building permits in Lethbridge, helping push the year-to-date total above last year.

According to the city’s monthly report, 175 building permits were issued with a total value of $47.5 million. That’s substantially higher than October of 2017, which saw 147 permits worth only $7.5 million. It’s also higher than September of 2018, in which 152 permits were issued worth $18.3 million.

The October numbers include:

  • 31 new single-family homes with a permit value of $12.4 million. (In October of 2017 there were also 31 permits for single-family homes, but the permits were only worth $4.5 million.)
  • 20 new multi-family dwellings with a value of $15 million.
  • Two permits for new industrial construction worth $12.7 million. One is worth $9 million, for a new industrial building on Cavendish Rd. N. The other is a $3 million permit for a manufacturing building on 28 St. N.
  • A single $1 million new commercial permit, for an office building on W.T. Hill Blvd.

The year-to-date total is 1,452 permits worth $302.7 million. At this time a year ago, more permits had been issued – 1,519 – but with a lower total value, $289 million. Two years ago, the year-to-date total was $313 million.
