Christmas spirit takes over ENMAX Centre lounge to benefit hospital

LETHBRIDGE – Beautifully-decorated trees and other adornments have once again taken over the Canadian Western Bank Lounge at the ENMAX Centre.

For the 26th year, the Christmas Tree Festival will benefit the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation. Executive director Jason VandenHoek said the money raised this ear will support the mental health unit at the hospital.

“Our goal, along with Alberta Health Services, is to renovate and redevelop the space we currently have at the hospital, so we are in the midst of doing that right now. The money that we raise Wednesday night will help us keep going with that project,” he explained, referring to the Nov. 21 gala. Tickets are $80 each, and the trees will be auctioned off.

But in the meantime, the public is welcome to view the trees at no charge. Decorated by various sponsors and community groups, the trees offer a variety of themes.

“Whether you want something really elegant, if you’re looking for something more traditional or whimsical, there really is something for everybody here,” VandenHoek said.

Public viewings are Monday, Nov. 19 and Tuesday, Nov. 20 from noon-8 p.m. Free Family Night is Monday, 5-8 p.m. featuring children’s activities, skating with the Pronghorns hockey team, and a visit by Santa Claus.
