Heart of Our City Activity Grants awarded to 24 downtown events for 2019

LETHBRIDGE – $130,565 in Heart of Our City Activity Grants has been awarded to 24 downtown events to be held in 2019.

The Heart of Our City Committee made the announcement on Wednesday, Nov. 28, and the events include a variety of music, arts and cultural festivals as well as seasonal celebrations.

13 multi-day events are receiving funding and 11 single-day events which will take place over a total of 114 days which are expected to attract more than 50,000 attendees to downtown Lethbridge. 

There will also be eight new sponsored events this year including the 6th Street Best of the Best Festival, CariBridge Carnival, Farmers Market Cartoonist in Residence, Festival of Lights/Dance, Hootenanny Outdoor Children’s Play, Jane’s Walk Downtown, and Shelter Me in the Park. 

Grant amounts range from $650 up to $10,000.

Heart of Our City Committee Dawn Leite says they’re pleased and proud to provide financial help on behalf of the City of Lethbridge.

“To support a really great array of events will help achieve City Council’s goal of enhancing the vibrancy of our downtown,” Leite added.

The Heart of Our City Activity Grant provides funding support to help Lethbridge organizations host events that foster an exciting, vibrant downtown and attract audiences to the heart of our city.        

The deadline for applications for 2019 grants was October 31, 2018. 

Applications were assessed for merit and grants were awarded by the Heart of Our City Committee in consultation with the City’s Community Services department and the Office of the City Clerk.
