COALHURST - Crews have extinguished an early morning house fire on the eastern edge of Coalhurst.

The fire was first reported on social media by the Coalhurst Volunteer Fire Department at around 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3. Members of the public were asked to avoid the scene on 8th Street.

Coalhurst Fire Chief Mathew Conte says a neighbour had gone into the home and was able to help the two residents inside get out. The residents were not hurt but were taken to the hospital by EMS to be assessed.

As far as a damage estimate, Conte says they're currently working on that, however, they expect this to be a total loss.

The fire was contained to a single structure.
