LETHBRIDGE —  A 26-year-old city man has been charged in connection with an assault in the middle of a downtown road earlier this week on Monday (Dec 10).

Just after 12 p.m. on that day, police responded to a stabbing at the intersection of 3 Avenue and 12 Street South.

An investigation determined that three acquaintances, 26-year-old man and a 30-year-old man and 27-year-old woman, were involved in a physical altercation earlier in the day and had left the scene in separate vehicles. A second incident erupted when the two vehicles were stopped at a red light.

The 26-year-old exited his vehicle and smashed the window of the other vehicle with a snow brush, which prompted the other couple to get out and confront him. The 26-year-old  attempted to strike the woman, but the 30-year-old man intervened and was hit across the back. The 30-year-old subsequently stabbed the 26-year-old multiple times and left him in the road before he and the woman fled in their vehicle.

A passenger inside the 26-year-old’s vehicle helped him inside and drove him to the Regional Hospital.

Police located 30-year-old William Edward Fick at a residence a short time later, where he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

On Friday (Dec 14) police arrested the 26-year-old Christopher Anthony Degeorgio, following his release from hospital.  He faces two counts of assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.  Degeorgio was released on a recognizance to appear in court Jan. 17.
