North Battleford, Sask. — Casey Scheidegger defeated reigning Canadian and world champion Jennifer Jones Thursday afternoon at the 2019 Meridian Canadian Open.

The 8-4 victory came thanks to a four-point second end that allowed the team some breathing room early on.

Asked about the key to success on the afternoon, Scheidegger was quick to credit her teammates.

“That’s all I can ask, is that they go out there and make a lot of shots and they did that,” she said. “I was really happy with their play.

The victory for the 2017 Meridian Canadian Open champion came on the back of a Wednesday night loss against Scottland’s Eve Muirhead.

Despite a 2-0 lead after two ends, a double from Muirhead in the third and a triple in the sixth led her rink to a commanding victory.

Earlier that day, Scheidegger dominated throughout her match with 2018 champion Chelsea Carey, securing an 8-3 seven end win.

Looking ahead, Scheidegger maintained a need to stay consistent and make critical shots.

With a 2-1 record, her rink advances to the B Finals, where she will play Nina Roth, the lone American rink at the tournament, in a bid to punch her ticket to the playoffs at 11:30 Friday.
