Alberta classrooms participating in – All for the Beef

LETHBRIDGE — Alberta schools can now participate in “All for the Beef”, an Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) initiative. Brad Dubeau, ABP Marketing & Education Manager, says the new educational resources replace Beef in the Classroom, which had been offered for several years.

“The new program that was just revamped and launched in the fall is called “All for the beef”.  The new program offers resources, including a teacher manual, student learning booklet, market cards, recipe cards, chef skill cards and we also offer a test bank, so its the full program that fits the course Foods-2100.”

“This particular program is geared for ages 8 to 12 – for more in your food studies classes – but it also offers a lot of information about nutritional resrouces, about how to prepare, how to handle beef, so I guess there’s lots in there that, I think, teachers from all grades could potentially use, but it is geared specifically to “Foods 2100″ and if the teachers pick it up, they can utilitze that.  This course resource will take them right from the beginning to the end.”

The resource is available at no charge to the teachers, for them to use in talking about beef and Dubeau says early response to the program has been impressive.

“The up-take that we’ve had so far, has been extremely positive.  The program also allows Alberta beef producers to be in schools everywhere, where this program lets the teachers pick it up, choose when they want to put it into their semester and it works for them, and it works for the whole province, so it’s been a nice fit so far.”

Dubeau says there’s more coming, and refers to what’s in the planning stages.  

“We will be moving into revamping our K-to-6 resources – that’s going to be coming up, hopefully, in the Spring, and we’ll have it all ready and prepared to go for the fall of 2019.”
