EVERETT, WASH. — The Hurricanes’ second game of a three game U.S. road trip was a high scoring, penalty riddled event.

The first 20 minutes saw the Everett Silverstips’ get two goals past the Canes’ rookie goaltender Bryan Thompson. Mid-way through the period, the Canes’ Scott Mahovlich and Everetts’ Dawson Butt were both nailed for unsportsmanlike conduct. The period ended with the Silvertips ahead 2-0 and leading shots-on-goal 17-6.

The clock had barely reached 29-seconds in the next period, when Everett’s Zack Andrusiak tallied his second goal of the game. At that point, Lethbridge replaced Thompson in goal with Carl Tetachuk.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t much help, as Everett players added another six goals, including a hat-trick for Andrusiak.

Lethbridge’s lone goal came off the stick of Justin Hall, assisted by Noah Boyko, mid-way through frame.

Not only did the second period produce the majority of the game’s goals, it also offered up a steady stream of penalties – 24 minutes of which were levied against Lethbridge. Amongst the infractions were a five-minute major for fighting and game misconducts for the Canes’ Scott Mahovlich and Everett’s Dawson Butt. Calen Addison added a ten-minute misconduct.

After the action of the second period, the third was a little more subdued. Everett produced their ninth goal, while the Canes produced more penalties.

By the time the game ended, Everett lead shots-on-goal 51-26, while Lethbridge lead penalty minutes 47-25.

The Hurricanes are now 25-14-4-4 on the season as they play their next game in Portland, Oregon on Sunday, Jan 27, before heading home.
