COALDALE, AB – Students will be able to go up against some of the region’s finest in a charity hockey game this week.

On Wednesday, Feb. 13, members of the Kate Andrews High School Hockey Academy will lace up their skates in a matchup with the Emergency Services Guns & Hoses.

“The fire departments and (Emergency Health Services) approached me and asked me how we could pair together to create some ‘community’ within Coaldale between the community itself and Kate Andrews (High School), so we got together in December and came up with a hockey game,” said Clayton Ressler, the Athletics Director at Kate Andrews High School.

The services team will be comprised of members of the local RCMP detachment, Coaldale Fire Rescue and Emergency Health Services.

“The community support has been really great. Now it’s just about getting the buy-in from the kids and some of the parents, and getting people to the game and filling the stands,” Ressler said.

Funds from the event will help support Kate Andrews High Schools athletics programs.

“They’re going into our general athletics funds, which will fund all of our sports programs at Kate Andrews – our baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, all those sorts of things,” Ressler added.

The game starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Coaldale Sportsplex.

There will be a raffle, 50/50 draw, a puck toss and a “shoot to win” game, where attendees can buy a ticket for a chance to shoot a puck to win $10,000.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the Kate Andrews High School office or at the Town of Coaldale office.
