Tenth Care from the Heart Radio-a-thon expects to push decade of giving past $2 Million

Feb 13, 2019 | 9:31 PM

LETHBRIDGE —  Once again this year, the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation hopes to raise $230,000 during Thursday’s (Feb 14) Care from the Heart Radio-a-thon.

While the goal has been the same for the several years, it is frequently surpassed by many thousands of dollars each year. In the past nine year, $1,960,000 has been raised for a multitude of hospital needs, such as state-of-the-art healthcare equipment, various programs and special projects.

Donations received this year, will be used to further support the redevelopment of the Chinook Regional Hospital’s Mental Heath facility.

Local cattleman and auctioneer, Bob Balog, is again chairing the event and looks at the day as being very important for everyone who lives in Lethbridge and Southern Alberta. He notes that at one point in time, every family in the area will use the hospital.

“So, let’s make it the very best hospital we can – all the money we raise stays right here and there’s been some tremendous improvements in the ten years of the radio-a-thon and once again this year, we look forward to having all the money stay here for improvements for our hospital.”.

But, why is the radio-a-thon needed?  It’s simple. Government dollars only go so far and the reason the local hospital is as state-of-the-art facility, has a lot to do with donor dollars. Southern Albertans are very generous and have provided investment in a hospital which benefits everyone when it’s needed.

It has also been pointed out that whenever we can provide for patient care here in Lethbridge it means we can stop a family from having to travel to Calgary and putting them under further stress.

Six Lethbridge radio stations, including Country-95 and B-93, 94.1 CJOC, 106.7 Rock, Kiss 107.7 and 98.1 the Bridge, will have live broadcasts from the Chinook Regional Hospital, highlighting the work of the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation (CRHF) as it seeks donor support for programs and state-of-the-art equipment.

Listeners will be able to hear about the impact donors have made.

The Care from the Heart radio-a-thon will be carried by the radio stations from 7:00-am until 6:00-pm. Donations can be made by stopping by the CRH Atrium, by calling the CRH Foundation at 403.388.6001, or online at www.crhfoundation.ca   You can follow the event’s progress on Facebook and Twitter – @crh_foundation or #CFTH2019
