Strong showing for Lethbridge athletes at Wrestling Junior Olympics

EDMONTON, AB – Lethbridge wrestlers fought hard, and brought some hardware back home for their efforts.

The University of Alberta in Edmonton hosted the 2019 Wrestling Junior Olympics on Feb. 15 and 16. The event was for athletes born from 2004 to 2010. 

Lethbridge’s Junior High Boys finished fourth in the team competition, while the Junior Girls took third place.

Individually, some wrestlers earned medals.

Ryder Lowry (Junior High Boys), Katelyn Lowry (Kids Division Girls) and Dakota Smith (Junior High Boys) finished with gold medals.

Payton Shields (Junior High Girls) and Jada Bester (Junior High Girls) earned silver medals.

Danica Harris (Junior High Girls), Reece Ferguson (Junior High Girls) and Sydney Shields (Novice Girls) finished with bronze medals.

The ASA (Alberta School’s Athletics Association) Rural Provincials take place this Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23 at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute.
