Feb 27, 2019 | 2:23 PM

FORT MACLEOD – RCMP officers from Pincher Creek, Nanton, Claresholm, and Pikanii detachments, and the RCMP Emergency Response Team are all in Fort Macleod for the next several hours, as they investigate an incident that may be related to an incident early Wednesday morning (Feb. 27).

Cst. Mike Hibbs says around 12:20 a.m., Fort Macleod RCMP responded to an assault on a male at an undisclosed location.

The man was taken to local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Hibbs says as a result of the subsequent investigation, a large police presence was required and will remain in the area for the next several hours.

He can’t disclose where officers are currently investigating, why, whether officers are looking for any one else that could be related to the incident, or exactly how long police are expected to remain on scene.

“I’m not sure when the next (news) release will come. I know once the investigation is completed, then we’ll get more details out.”

Hibbs says there is no concern for public safety, but he can not disclose whether a home, business, or other area may be the target of the current investigation.
