Stop navel-gazing and fight for farmers says Notley

EDMONTON —  Alberta’s Premier has called on the federal government to quote, ” stop its navel-gazing about its internal controversies” and stick up for Alberta farmers.

Rachel Notley issued a statement Wednesday afternoon, calling China’s canola export license suspension for Richardson International “wrong and unfair.”

She adds 3000 Alberta jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars for this province’s farmers are at stake.

The statement also says Richardson ships 30 per cent of Alberta’s canola and that 70 per cent of the province’s agriculture exports to China are canola-related.

Notley says the Prime Minister has to get back on the job and fight for farmers.

China says it made the move because of concerns over insect infestations, but many believe it is actually because Canada arrested a top executive at tech company Huawei at the behest of the Americans.

The US believes Huawei violated sanctions by doing business with Iran.
