Hurricanes end the season with a 3-2 win over the Tigers

MEDICINE HAT — The Canes last game of the regular season was just down the road in Medicine Hat Saturday night.  The two teams spent most of the first 20-minutes sizing each other up.

The period produced one minor penalty for each team before there was a puck in a net. The Tigers were first on the scoreboard – at 17:48.   Two minutes later, Nick Henry fired-off his 28th goal of the season, with the assist from Jake Leschyshyn and Nolan Jones, tying the score moments before the buzzer.

The next 20-minutes saw triple the number of penalties – all of them minor. At the six-minute mark, Nick Henry notched his second goal of the game, giving the Canes a 2-1 lead.  It was ten minutes later that Jake Elmer planted a short-handed goal – his 39th of the season.  The second period ended with the Canes leading 3-1.

The final 20 minute produced no penalties and the lone goal came from the Tigers’ Ryan Jevne, giving the Canes a 3-2 win.

The Hurricanes finish their regular season with eight wins in a row and 40-18-5-5 on the season. The team is one point ahead of Edmonton but, the Oil Kings have 41 wins.

The Canes begin the first round of the playoffs against Calgary on Friday (Mar 22) at the Enmax.
