COALDALE, AB – A Lethbridge man has been charged after a serious collision at the end of last year.

27-year-old Logan Drake faces numerous charges stemming from the incident on November 12, 2018.

That morning, Coaldale RCMP attended the scene with the Coaldale Fire Department/EMS at the intersection of Highway 4 and Highway 845.

The two-vehicle collision involved an older couple from the Yukon in a white Ford F-150 truck and two males and a female in their 20’s driving a black Chevrolet truck.

The Ford was travelling southeast on Highway 4 towards the United States border while the Chevrolet was moving northerly from Raymond on Highway 845.

The Coaldale RCMP said the Chevrolet failed to proceed safely through the intersection of Highway 4 and crossed in front of the Ford truck. This resulted in the Ford truck slamming into the driver’s side box area of the Chevrolet.

The Chevrolet came to rest in the centre median, with the Ford on the north side of the southbound lanes of Highway 4.

A man and woman in their 70’s were in the Ford truck and were taken by ground ambulance to Chinook Regional Hospital with what were deemed to be minor injuries. The man was later transported to Calgary when his injuries were deemed more serious.

The RCMP noted that amidst the confusion of the collision, the two males of the Chevrolet exited the vehicle and the driver was not initially identified.

Police have now identified Logan Drake as the driver.

All three occupants of the Chevrolet were taken to hospital in Lethbridge. The female suffered serious head and internal injuries. STARS Air Ambulance transferred her to Calgary for further treatment.

Since then, according to an update from Coaldale RCMP on March 20, all individuals involved have been treated for their injuries and discharged from hospital.

The Chevrolet was determined to have been stolen from Lethbridge. As a result of this incident, Drake has been charged with many criminal code offences.

He’ll appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on April 2 for one charge of Obstruction (for lying about his name to police), three charges of Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm and one charge of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.
