Multiple road closures during Moonlight Madness Run tonight

LETHBRIDGE – There annual Moonlight Madness 10k run and 6k walk takes place tonight beginning at 8 p.m., however road closures will affect several routes long before that.

According to the City of Lethbridge, the 200 blk of 8 St. S. will be closed at 3 p.m. for race set-up and will not reopen until around 11 p.m. tonight.

Both westbound lanes of 3 Ave. S. and one eastbound lane from Stafford Dr. to Scenic Dr. and down into Indian Battle Park will be close around 6 p.m. and will begin to reopen around 10 p.m.

That means vehicle access to and from Indian Battle Park will be affected beginning around 6 p.m. until at least 11:30 p.m.

And the 200 blk. of Scenic Dr. S. will also be closed around 6 p.m. It is expected to be open to traffic once again by around 10 p.m.

According to its website, the Moonlight Run is the largest of its kind in southern Alberta, and this year, has about 2,444 participants.

The race begins at Casa and follows a route though Downtown Lethbridge into the River Valley, and back up again.

There are small cash prizes for those who place 1st, 2nd and 3rd, in both the run and the walk categories, while the proceeds of the run are given to Lethbridge charities.
