Ultra-light helicopter pilot killed in crash near High River

HIGH RIVER, Alta. - Police say the pilot of an ultra-light helicopter is dead after crashing the machine on the shoreline of the Sheep River.

RCMP officers from High River and Okotoks were dispatched to the scene Sunday at about 5;30 p.m.

MELFORT, Sask. — A truck driver facing criminal charges in a fatal collision involving the Humboldt Broncos team bus is to appear in court for the first time on Tuesday.

RCMP say Jaskirat Sidhu, who is 29, is to be in provincial court in Melfort at 9:30 a.m.

Alberta fentanyl deaths continue to rise, but at slower rate

EDMONTON - New figures suggest that fentanyl deaths are continuing to rise in Alberta this year but at a slower rate.

Health officials say there were 228 overdose deaths from Jan. 1 through to early May, which, if the rate remains steady, would mean about 660 by the end of the year.

ST. ALBERT, Alta. - The Alberta government entity tasked with regulating cannabis has signed supply deals with 13 licensed producers, including Aurora Cannabis and Canopy Growth Corp., as it gears up for legal recreational pot in October.
