Feb 7, 2016 | 7:40 AM

LETHBRIDGE:  The majority of Albertans are not receiving the proper resources to help identity heart disease.

Calgary based physician Dr. Anthony Train discussed cardiovascular risks and adopting a healthier lifestyle in front of local healthcare professionals in Lethbridge this week.

Train discussed how health care practioners can do a cardiovascular risk assessment for any patient.

“Right now in Alberta, 75% of the people who need these assessments are not getting them done. The reason is there is a knowledge gap. A lot of healthcare professionals don’t know how to give these assessments.”

Train adds everything needed to conduct the tests are already in place.

He says the assessment, which should be done to all patients over 40, leads to reducing risk factors for heart disease that 90 per cent Canadians already have.

Train was one of the speakers at the “Risky Business: A Vascular Risk Reduction Update” conference held by the Alberta Healthy Living program.

His presentation at the 8th Annual event was titled “What’s Your Prescription for Healthy Living”.
