LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has provided an update on a pedestrian collision in the city.

Officers were called to the intersection of 26 Avenue North and 28 Street North at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

The investigation determined that a GMC truck was travelling eastbound on 26 Avenue North and made a left-hand turn onto 28 Street North, striking two pedestrians as they crossed in the crosswalk.

LPS says the driver immediately stopped and phoned 9-1-1.

A 66-year-old man was pronounced deceased on scene.

A 62-year-old woman was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital with life-threatening-injuries and was later flown to hospital in Calgary where she remains in critical condition.

The collision remains under investigation.

At this time, LPS says it will not be releasing any further information.
