Lethbridge rolling out crews to fill potholes

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge has began rolling out crews to fill potholes around the community.

The city said it has already received over 200 service requests to fill potholes as a result of winter weather fluctuations, along with wear and tear from drivers.

With the warmer temperatures, crews have hot asphalt available to use, which is not available in the winter when crews have to use different methods.

Juliane Ruck, Transportation Operations Manager with the city, said they were given a $500,000 budget for repairing potholes in the city, but based off needs, they sometimes have to be flexible with funds and prioritize different projects.

Ruck added, “If we need to spend more, then we spend more. Then, we can’t do some more of the road maintenance work that is less important. Potholes and crack sealing takes priority because it is preventative maintenance, if we can fix these issues right away we can extend the life of the road.”

Residents and drivers who see potholes are encouraged to call 311.
