LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge, Taber, and Blood Tribe police services welcomed new recruits Friday September 15, 2023.

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) welcomed constables Alison McCulloch, Taylor Toner and Marc Trotta. The new LPS constables still have three weeks of in-house training to complete before doing 18 weeks paired with a Field Training Officer before setting out on their own.

The Taber Police Service welcomed Cobe Cobarrubias and Brandon Demers, while the Blood Tribe Police Service added Austin Giant and Kalib Thunder Chief.

The 2023 cadet class trained for 22 weeks in an award-winning program that was developed in collaboration with Lethbridge College. The Police Cadet Training Program was designed to meet industry demand and ensure officers are well-trained in both hard and soft skills, like firearm use and interpersonal communication.

Trudi Mason, Lethbridge College’s dean for the Centre for Justice and Human Services, congratulated the new constables, “Lethbridge College is pleased to be able to offer high-quality programming that meets the needs of our partner police agencies.”

Mason continued, “Preparing new officers to serve their communities through the police cadet training program is a privilege, and a valued collaboration.”

During the ceremony, Constable McCulloch was presented with both the Top Cadet, and Top Academic awards. Constable Trotta was named the recipient of the Top PT and Silent Leader awards, and the Dwayne Smith Officer Safety Award.

The LPS is accepting applications for its upcoming cadet training classes in February and July 2024. More information about the process is at the LPS website.
