CCWC Wants Province To Keep Castle Provincial Park Promise

PINCHER CREEK: The Castle-Crown Wilderness Coalition (CCWC) is questioning reported repairs to off-highway vehicle trails in the soon-to-be Castle Provincial Park.

CCWC Board Chair Peter Lee says the group is asking the Alberta New Democrats to honour their election promise to fully protect the area southwest of Pincher Creek.

Lee claims the province has used tax payer money to rebuild the trails recently despite off-highway vehicles (OHVs) not being allowed in provincial parks.

“It’s exasperating to say the least. It’s really an affront to what they promised to do publicly by fully protecting the Castle Park and they seem to be doing the opposite.”

Lee says the Castle area is the biologically rich area in Alberta.

“It’s rich in terms of containing all kinds of endangered species including grizzly bears and the westslope cutthroat trout.”

Lee says the province is giving mixed messages to user groups and is telling Conservationists one thing and OHV users another thing.
