Daughter of Murder Victim Makes Plea for More Information

LETHBRIDGE – The family of Irene Carter is making a plea to the community, asking anyone with information on Carter’s murder to come forward.

The 78-year old’s body was found in her south side home in January, with an autopsy confirming it was a homicide and that she died from stab wounds.

“We are reaching out to the public for help, if you have any information about what happened to my mom, please contact the Lethbridge Police Service, so they can put my mom to rest peacefully and we can start to heal,” Carter’s daughter, Lisa Freihaut, said through tears.

“This is the first time I don’t get to send my mom flowers or give her a card on Mother’s Day, see her beautiful garden, and be with her for family gatherings. Mom, we love you and miss you. We think of you every day.”

Following Freihaut’s statement, Sergeant Ryan Stef with the Lethbridge Police Violent Crimes Unit took questions. He explained that through their investigation, they learned that door-to-door canvassers had been in the area at the time. After exhausting all local leads, they are now looking into businesses based in Calgary, which may have sent employees to Lethbridge around the time of the murder, in the hopes of finding a potential witness.

Stef noted that they have a great deal of evidence from the scene, but wasn’t willing to elaborate on any of it or say whether they have any potential suspects. He also couldn’t say what the motive may have been at this point.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Stef at the Lethbridge Police Service at 403-330-5066 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
