Jun 26, 2016 | 10:31 AM

WATERTON LAKES – Considerable construction has the potential to impact visitor experience at Waterton Lakes National Park this 2016 season.

There are several restoration projects on the go this summer.

Projects resulting in a closure or major impact:

Cameron Lake Day Use Area: Closed until November 2016

The Cameron Lake Day Use Area is closed to replace the existing facilities. The Lakeshore Trail at Cameron Lake will not be accessible during construction.

Akamina Parkway: Closed until November 2016

The Akamina Parkway is closed to all traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists. Outdoor enthusiasts can hop on a complimentary shuttle to access trails along the Akamina Parkway. Available by reservation only, the shuttle runs from June 16 to September 18, 2016.

Projects resulting in a lesser impact:

Blakiston Falls Viewing Platforms

The viewing platforms at Blakiston Falls are closed for replacement until September 2016. The Blakiston Valley trail remains open to hikers only, that means visitors on horseback cannot complete the Snowshoe/Blakiston Valley loop.

Chief Mountain Highway

Repairs along Chief Mountain Highway are in the works until further notice, working from north to south. The highway remains open with single lane alternating traffic and up to 20 minute delays.

Staff Housing

Construction on the 100-block of Clematis Avenue has begun to replace Parks Canada staff accommodation.

Waterton Townsite Infrastructure Replacement

Evergreen Avenue South: To complete paving work, Evergreen Avenue (south of Cameron Falls Drive), Columbine Avenue and the adjacent service road is closed to all vehicular traffic until further notice.

Cameron Falls

Access to Cameron Falls is available to pedestrians only. Parking is available throughout the village.

Bertha Lake Trail

The Bertha Trail parking lot is closed to vehicle traffic until further notice, however the trail remains open for public use. The trailhead can be accessed by pedestrians only via a service road located south of Cameron Falls. Parking is available throughout the village.

Evergreen Avenue North: Water and sewer upgrades will continue along Evergreen Avenue (north of Cameron Falls Drive) into the summer. The street is closed to the public. Access to Cameron Falls is available via Fountain Avenue.

Waterton Avenue: The south end of Waterton Avenue is closed for water and sewer upgrades until further notice. The G Loop of the Townsite Campground and Townsite Dump Station is also closed to accommodate this work. Access to the Community Kitchen and picnic areas along the lakeshore is unavailable. An alternative picnic area and shelter is available at Emerald Bay.
