Lethbridge Gets an Important Profile Boost from the Tour of Alberta

Sep 2, 2016 | 12:20 PM

LETHBRIDGE – Economic Development Lethbridge is very happy with the success of the Tour of Alberta in our city, despite the fact that they haven’t even seen the attendance numbers yet.
EDL’s Chief Executive Officer, Trevor Lewington, explained that while the number of competitors, support staff and spectators spending money in Lethbridge is important, there’s another major benefit.

“The larger reason for the event that’s important to the city is also that international reputation piece,” stated Lewington. “So it’s exposure on an international stage, many television viewers, many internet repeats in terms of stories, that gets Lethbridge exposure.”

The race, which features almost 120 professional cyclists, is broadcast to over 200 countries.

Lewington noted that the success of something like the Tour of Alberta can be used to attract more major events, which will only continue to boost our city’s profile.

“We’re a city of almost 100,000 people, events like this – especially when they go well and the weather cooperates this year, and that was a nice bonus – it just shows that Lethbridge is capable of hosting major world-class events.”

He went on to say that Lethbridge is open for business, and happy to welcome any events or tournaments looking for a host city.
