LETHBRIDGE – A preliminary hearing has been set for a 40-year old Lethbridge man, accused in the death of a nine month old baby boy.

Tyler Brian Hogan – who is currently out on release conditions – faces a charge of second degree murder, in connection with the death of Austin Wright.

On April 28, 2016, Lethbridge EMS responded to a report of a baby in medical distress at a residence along the 600 block of 17 Street North. Upon arrival paramedics located Austin inside the home, not breathing and in cardiac arrest. He was transported to the Chinook Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation determined that Austin had been left in the care of his mother’s boyfriend, who was living in the residence at the time. The man initially reported to police that Austin had fallen and just stopped breathing, but an autopsy determined the little boy died as a result of blunt force trauma that was not consistent with a fall.

The preliminary hearing will determine if there is enough evidence against Hogan for the matter to proceed to trial.
