Christmas Lights Tour of Lethbridge returns for 54th season

LETHBRIDGE – A holiday tradition will continue, as the Christmas Lights Tour of Lethbridge returns for a 54th year.

Stephen Kotch will lead a convoy of vehicles around the city in his tour bus, stopping to look at the decorated homes and light displays along his route.

Kotch noted that it’s free to follow along, and called it a great opportunity to bring the family together for an evening.

“It’s the one thing in the year that they can do that doesn’t cost their family anything,” Kotch stated. “They just hop in their car and drink their hot chocolate or whatever they’re doing, and it ends early enough that they can go home and have a decent dinner afterwards and talk about the experience.”

The tour will start near the grandstand at Exhibition Park on December 18. He asks people to start arriving around 5:00 p.m., with the tour departing at 5:30 p.m. sharp. He will also hand out maps so drivers can see a few of the homes that won’t be on the tour.

When Kotch was asked why he continues the tradition, he chuckled and responded, “Habit I guess.”

“It is a lot of fun, I like to see people enjoying themselves, and most of them are loyal clients of ours and have been since 1927,” Kotch continued. “It’s nice for them to walk up and shake my hand and say, ‘We remember you and we remember your grandparents and parents,’ because it was my grandparents who started the [tour] company back in 1927.”
