May 8, 2017 | 1:09 PM

LETHBRIDGE – The first week of a hearing for Derek Saretzky has closed, with some plans revealed for how it will unfold over the coming weeks.

The case is currently in a voir dire to examine the admissibility of certain evidence, and as such, details presented during the proceedings are covered under a publication ban.

Evidence in the hearing will continue next week, with arguments from the Crown and defence on what should be allowed the following week. Jury selection will go ahead on May 25, with the trial then beginning on June 5.

Saretzky, 24, is facing three counts of first degree murder and one count of committing an indignity to a human body for the deaths of 27-year old Terry Blanchette, his two-year old daughter Hailey, and 69-year old Hanne Meketech.

He was arrested and charged in September of 2015, shortly after the bodies of the father and daughter were found in the Crowsnest Pass.

Then in April of 2016, the murder charge involving Meketech – who was killed one week before the other two – was added.

It was later confirmed by police that Meketech lived next door to Saretzky’s grandparents.
