City Asking You to Watch What You Flush
LETHBRIDGE: The City of Lethbridge is asking you to try a different kind of waste diversion.
They’ve noted that our city’s sewer system is dealing with a growing number of clogs, as people are flushing things down the toilet that aren’t meant to be flushed.
“It’s kind of become a convenience thing,” stated Environmental Program Assistant Stephanie Vehnon. “We’re just trying to create awareness around the fact that some of these items that you’re putting down your toilet can create issues within your pipes, so in your house, as well as in the waste-water treatment plant.”
Vehnon also touched on some of the more common problem items that get flushed, “Pretty much anything, but to name a few, fats, oil and grease, rags, bathroom wipes, paper towels, feminine hygiene, hair, the list really goes on-and-on.”
