TABER: A Taber elementary student was celebrated in front of his school Thursday for knowing to call 911 when his mother had a medical emergency.

Five year old Dane DeGraw did not panic when his mother Joley collapsed in the bathroom in December.

Dane was able to give his home address and calmly speak to a dispacter while first responders were on the way.

“I was thinking ‘I hope my mom is going to be OK.”

Joley says every family should teach their young children their home address and practice how to call 911.

“This young man of mine saved my life that day. I truly believe that. He…he’s my angel.”

Dane was presented an award and an Edmonton Oilers’ jersey by Taber Police and Alberta Heath services in the St. Patrick’s elementary school gymnasium Friday.
