Intelligent YQL Initiative Posts an Eventful Past Year

Feb 4, 2016 | 9:12 AM

LETHBRIDGE:   With the work of nearly 22 stakeholders, Intelligent Community Initiative (Intelligent YQL) has increased in profile and offerings. The team launched an open data set in November, which provides access to a variety of information from around Lethbridge.

Within seven days of its launch, City of Lethbridge – Information Technology General Manager, Trevor Butler, says a company from Montreal was able to make a new city transit app.

The group also helped the city become recognized, among 400 other participants, as a Smart 21 Community.

“Around open data, it’s really about providing additional data sets. It’s nice to have that data available, but what we really make it available for is so that new services can be produced,” said Butler of the plan for 2016.

He added that they’ve put forward an application for a Top 7 recognition, with the chance to be awarded Intelligent Community of the Year.

An “App-a-Thon” will also be held in either later February or early March, to gain more public attention for the intiative.
