Council Supports Family Services Building Upgrades

Feb 15, 2016 | 7:14 AM

LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Family Services building could be getting some necessary infrastructure upgrades.

City Council agreed to write a letter of support, so the organization can apply for $437,000 in grants.

The 26-year old building needs upgrades to its electrical systems and flooring. Work could begin in June and Director of Advancement and Community Relations, Melody Garner, says it could take up to 12 months to complete as the worst case scenario.

She notes that this could bring more changes if the funding is successful. “Any time we’re able to upgrade technology and information systems, we know that we can work more efficiently and effectively. That has the potential for increased capacity within the overall agency. It just brings an amazing opportunity for the whole city.”

While construction is underway, Garner added that they won’t have to relocate to a temporary facility either. Construction would work around the centre’s schedule on evenings and weekends, as it would be too hard to move so many clients.

Garner is in the process of writing grants, and is waiting on another letter from a provincial MP.
