OTTAWA — Southern Alberta has been given a leadership role on the Parliamentary committee that oversees the energy sector.

Foothills MP John Barlow has been named the vice-chair of the Standing Committee on Natural Resources.

Currently the Deputy Critic of Employment, Workforce and Labour for the Official Opposition, Barlow has been representing the Foothills riding since 2014.

Barlow said that the importance of the energy sector to Southern Alberta requires strong voices from the area to be on the committee.

“The prosperity of our province, from downtown Calgary and Edmonton to our rural communities, relies on these resources,” Barlow said. “I am proud to be able to have another opportunity to be a strong voice for Alberta, and for Foothills.”

The committee oversees the Department of Natural Resources which includes the energy, minerals and forestry industries.

Barlow was first elected to the House of Commons in a by-election back in 2014.
