City Council Supports Remaining Highway Three Twinning

LETHBRIDGE – The Highway 3 Economic Development Association will re-new its efforts to get the remaining 220 kilometers of Highway 3 twinned.

Lethbridge City Council will write a letter of support for the Town of Pincher Creek to support the Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) Inter-Municipal Collaboration provincial grant appplication.

A request from the association was made that all communities along the highway make a resolution to support the application.

“We hope it’ll be part of the provincial government’s infrastructure plan. They’ve identified that they have $4.5-billion in unallocated capital, and we hope that Highway 3 will be part of that,” explained Mayor Chris Spearman.

The project has been halted for the past 15 years. Spearman says that Highway 3 is a major economic and travel artery through southern Alberta.

A number of fatal collisions have led to a serious safety concern, as well.

In regard to the state of Alberta’s economy, Mayor Spearman hopes that it will be a high priority because of it’s potential to create jobs in the area.
