Oliver Building Up for Bids by City

Feb 28, 2016 | 7:15 AM

LETHBRIDGE – A parcel of land in the downtown is up for bids by the City of Lethbridge.

The century-old Oliver Building was surrendered to the city in 2014 as a property tax settlement, and has been vacant for a number of years. An assessment determined it was too damaged for repairs.

The city had to re-assess it’s plan for the land after a Request for Proposals was unsuccessful in July 2015.

The land located at 316 – 5 Street South is currently being re-zoned to a Direct Control District. This will better capture the vision of the Heart of Our City Master Plan and Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan.

Bids can be submitted until March 24th. They’ll be evaluated on the offered price and any conditions that may be applied. If no bids are accepted, the city will continue until a suitable offer is received.

Prospective buyers can make an appointment to tour the ground. However, due to the condition of the building, Personal Protective Equipment is mandatory and will be provided. The number of people allowed to enter will also be limited to ensure safety.

The complete bid package is available here.
