‘Waste Wizard’ Tells You What Waste Goes Where

LETHBRIDGE: A new online tool will tell Lethbridge residents what they can and cannot recycle.

The City unveiled the “Waste Wizard” at City Hall Tuesday, as the service will also tell you where certain items should go and provides garbage pick up schedule-reminders.

Program Assistant for Waste and Recycling Services Tyler Stewart explains there is a lot of confusion in the community.

“We got phone calls and e-mails pretty much everyday from residents of Lethbridge wondering about those kinds of common questions. So this is just that one-stop-shop that gives easy answers at the touch of their finger tips.”

Stewart says users can type in almost any household item and receive instructions on whether it should be recycled along with directions on where to take it.

“[We get] those common questions like ‘I can’t remember can I recycle styrofoam?’, ‘What am I suppose to do with a lightbulb?’, ‘Where should I take batteries?’. We want to make sure to keep those things out of the landfill and by providing residents with directions to the right place we can help them make sure their waste ends up in the right place.”

The tool is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to engage with residents and provide them assistance and quality information.
