Teen Who Was Shot By Police Pleads Not Guilty
LETHBRIDGE – A teen who was shot by police last October following an incident at a westside grocery store has entered pleas of not guilty to all charges.
The 17-year-old is accused of sexually assaulting a woman shopping at Safeway. When security found him, he was armed with a large knife that had been taken from the butcher’s counter and was swinging it around.
The youth fled the store but was located a short distance away still carrying the knife. During a confrontation, an officer discharged his service pistol resulting in serious, but non-life threatening injuries to the teen.
The youth is charged with sexual assault, theft under $5,000, possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public, and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.
