EDMONTON – The Alberta government says there were 55 flu-related deaths in the province between September and the end of March.
Alberta Health Services says the victims had lab-confirmed influenza and that 26 of the deaths occurred in the Calgary area.
Overall, there were over 48,000 lab-confirmed cases of influenza this season and over half of those involved the A strain of the virus.
The department’s flu immunization program has ended for another year, with officials saying more than one-point-one million doses of vaccine were administered across the province.
