Coaldale Fire Chief No Longer a Town Employee

Apr 26, 2016 | 11:58 AM

COALDALE – As of March 29, Coaldale Fire Chief Jean-Guy Mayer is no longer an employee of the town.

Mayer was brought on to the fire department in early November 2015. Former Fire Chief Andy Van Rijn held the position for 30 years before him, and retired back in January.

Town of Coaldale CAO, Kalen Hastings, stated that the town is not in a position to comment on the particulars of the situation.

Acting Fire Chief Gary Gettman will take over for the next six months. He’s been with the department since 1988 and was named Deputy Fire Chief back in 2010.

“We’re going to stay the course and continue to provide the same high quality of service we always have. I’m particularly thankful for the great group of firefighters around me that have been both helpful and supportive during this transitionary time.”

Hastings added that since Gettman is a veteran at the department, the town has put its full trust in his leadership.

The town will now consult with the department and start to make decisions on the “long-term course of direction”.
